I recently finished reading “Chlorinte Katha” by Shri G. Gopinathan, a well-written and informative Malayalam book that explores the significance of chlorine and its compounds in our daily lives. The book provides clear insights into chlorine’s history, discovery in the 18th century, and its wide-ranging applications—from water purification and plastics to medicines and medical equipment.Shri Gopinathan, an experienced chemical engineer, presents complex chemical concepts in simple, accessible language. I was particularly surprised to learn about chlorine’s role in treating major diseases like AIDS, cancer, and ulcers, and its presence in medicines like Paracetamol, Pethidine, and others used for blood pressure, diabetes, and blood thinning.This book is a valuable resource not only for chemistry students but also for the general public. I truly appreciate the author’s effort in creating awareness about both the benefits and potential risks of chlorine through this engaging and well-researched book.
